Job Description

DGM Procurement Mech will drive sourcing, localization of fabricated components aligned to category strategy, and supplier performance for mechanical commodities such as plastics, sheet metal parts, machined components, and fabricated assemblies. The role requires strong technical understanding of manufacturing processes, costing and close collaboration with engineering, quality, Industrial, Supply chain, and production teams to enable localized, cost-effective, high-quality supply. Key Responsibilities Localization & Strategic Sourcing - Identify, qualify, and develop local suppliers to support Make-in-Region/Make-in-India initiatives. - Align with the category strategy, lead RFQs/RFPs, supplier selection, and commercial negotiations for plastics, metal stamping, rubber parts, machined parts, castings, Springs, Labels, packaging etc. Supplier Management & Development - Conduct supplier capability for manufacturing , quality, and capacity assessments. - Drive supplier KPIs: OTD, PPM, cost savings, and responsiveness. - Monitor supplier risks and implement mitigation plans. - Strong vendor onboarding, persuasion, and relationship-building capability. Cost Optimization & Value Engineering - Perform should-cost analysis and cost breakdown for mechanical parts. - Work with engineering on VA/VE (alternative RM proposal, design optimisations) and design-for-manufacturing opportunities. - Lead data-driven negotiations to achieve cost and productivity targets Procurement Operations - Manage contracts, and compliance documentation (SOW, SLAs, NDAs, tooling). - Track material availability and coordinate with planning, logistics, and production. - Maintain accurate procurement data in ERP/MRP systems (SAP) Cross-Functional Collaboration - Partner with engineering, quality, supply chain, Industrial and manufacturing on new product localization. - Support PPAP, APQP, FAI, and supplier corrective actions. - Resolve supply issues and ensure smooth production readiness. Required Skills & Qualifications Technical Expertise - Strong knowledge of injection molding, metal stamping, ), CNC machining, castings, fasteners, specialized processes (heat treatment, plating and tooling. - Ability to interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, tolerances, and material specs Professional Skills - 7-12 years in direct procurement/strategic sourcing/localization. - Strong negotiation, supplier management, analytical, and cost modelling skills. - Familiarity with supplier quality tools (PPAP, APQP, audits) Tools & Systems - Experience with ERP systems (SAP & procurement digital tools). - Proficiency in MS Excel; Tableau, Procurement Dashboards. Power BI is a bonus Communication & Collaboration - Excellent verbal and written communication skills for internal & external interactions - Skilled in influencing and driving cross-functional alignment - Strong interpersonal skills to build trust-based, long-term supplier relationships. Education - Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/ Industrial Engineering preferred. - MBA in Supply Chain/Operations is an advantage. Preferred (Localization-Focused) Experience - Experience setting up and tracking localization roadmaps, BOM localization %, and cost benefits. - Ability to build business cases for local vs. import buying - Understanding of local cost structures, GST implications, logistics norms, and vendor ecosystems. - Experience in sustainability sourcing and localization programs.
