Automation Test Engineer

The Role We are seeking an experienced Automation Engineer to join a high performing delivery team focused on improving software quality through intelligent and scalable test automation. This is a hands-on role where you will work closely with developers and manual testers to identify, prioritise, and implement automation opportunities. You will play an active role in shaping automation strategy, improving test coverage, and embedding automated testing into the software delivery lifecycle. Rather than simply automating existing tests, you will help determine what should be automated, when it should be automated, and how automation can provide the greatest value to the business and delivery teams. Key Responsibilities - Work closely with developers and testers to identify, prioritise, and plan automation opportunities. - Participate in planning discussions to assess new features, understand requirements, and determine automation approaches. - Design, develop, and maintain automated test scripts, frameworks, and supporting tools. - Review manual test cases and identify automation candidates based on risk, complexity, and return on investment. - Develop and maintain integration and automated regression test suites. - Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines and release processes. - Support test data creation, management, and database validation activities. - Execute automated tests, analyse results, and investigate failures. - Contribute to improving automation coverage, reliability, and maintainability across applications. - Work collaboratively with development teams to embed quality throughout the delivery lifecycle. - Participate in continuous improvement activities and promote best practices in test automation. What You'll Need - Strong experience in test automation within Agile delivery environments. - Hands-on development experience using C# and the ability to contribute alongside development teams. - Understanding of Web APIs, including routing, integrations, and error handling. - Strong SQL skills, including writing validation queries and managing test data independently. - Experience with automation frameworks such as Selenium WebDriver, Playwright, or similar. - Experience developing and maintaining automated integration tests. - Strong experience with NUnit. - Exposure to BDD frameworks such as SpecFlow or Cucumber is advantageous. - Experience integrating automated tests into Azure DevOps, Jenkins, or similar CI/CD platforms. - Experience using Git and modern version control practices. - Familiarity with test reporting solutions such as Allure, ExtentReports, or equivalent. - Strong understanding of the Software Testing Life Cycle (STLC). - Experience performing exploratory, smoke, sanity, and regression testing. - Ability to assess automation opportunities using risk-based thinking and practical decision making. - Strong collaboration and communication skills with both developers and testers. - Self-motivated approach with the ability to work independently and proactively. - Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with a focus on improving quality outcomes.
